written on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 10:18pmFor my entire career I have had an in-home studio.
Sometimes that meant just a desk and the occasional studio setup. Sometimes that meant a proper studio in the garage, always setup. Sometimes that meant a darkroom in my bathroom. Sometimes that meant I had 2 desks and a full-time studio setup. Basically the point is, I have always made do with my resources; squeezing every last ounce of space for its maximum usage.
For the first dozen years of my career I had other jobs, real jobs. Good jobs. Jobs with health insurance and 401ks.
For the last 5 years (wow, has it really been 5 years?!) I’ve worked exclusively from home, full-time self employeed as an artist. Live/work = same/space.
I know how blessed I am to be doing this for so long. I know. It’s not been an easy path (there is no insurance and certainly no 401ks), but I can’t imagine my life any other way.
Today started something quite wonderful and new.
A brand new chapter for Liz Huston and Photomonium.
Today I started moving my stuff into a studio.
!!!

For the first time in my career, I have a studio outside of my home. And the roof doesn’t leak.
I have a workspace dedicated to one thing: creativity.
The space is cozy with beautiful light, hardwood floors and a great location. Not to mention the other tenants seem really creative and sweet. I know one of them is for sure, she’s my studiomate! Ha. Did I just make that up? Studiomate?
Yes, it’s my first studio space and I’m sharing it with a friend. After working in isolation for 5 years it’ll be interesting to see me acclimate to being around people again. [haha…mostly kidding] At least I know she herself is great; we get along really well and our aesthetics are so similar, well, it’s gonna be fantastic.
So excited to see what comes out of it!
Stay tuned…
Cheers!
To new beginnings!
